East Marden Primary
Type | New school activity hall
Completed | 2007
Area | 470 sqm
The new Activity Hall fulfils the schools’ needs for assembly and multi-sport arrangements with flexibility of use for special occasions, school gatherings and other community functions.
The project called for a contemporary approach to the built form that would distinguishes itself from existing school structures while complimenting the natural surrounds of its site. Nestling the building amongst scrub and trees adjacent the school oval minimised visual impact to neighbouring properties.
The design is functional and efficient. East-west orientation with north and south high level glazing provides naturally lit and cross ventilated internal spaces. Play with colour and finishes echoes the school’s blend of a practical versus fun approach to learning, evident in the building’s overall striking form and deportment.
