A family home that embeds itself within its coastal surrounds by responding to site conditions and drawing upon the character of its locality.
The design explores the duality of solidity and transparency. In-situ concrete walls with small openings provide privacy along the side boundaries, while the living zones surrender to ocean views through large expanses of glass that blur the distinction between indoors and outdoors.
Internally, the design plays with light and shadow to create a series of dynamic spaces that are forever changing depending on external light conditions.
Designed with integrity and for longevity, durable materials suitable for coastal environments are selected, and sustainable principles are integrated.
The design improves the experience down the adjacent lane, enhancing the public interface, with the intent that the architecture is for the community as well as the occupants.
